| Management of Noncompliant Coatings Under Part 205 - Guidance for Retailers |
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has placed new limits on the amount of volatile organic compounds (VOC) found in architectural and industrial maintenance (AIM) coatings. AIM coatings include, but are not limited to, stains, varnishes, paints, enamels, primers, sealers and undercoatings. Products that exceed the new regulation on VOCs, which, according to the DEC, contribute to air pollution and related public health problems, are no longer to be sold in the state (July 16, 2007 was the “sell-through” date).
A new guide provided by the DEC, “Management of Noncompliant Coatings Under Part 205, Guidance for Retailers,” helps merchants determine what to do with any non-complaint coatings still in inventory. This guide, in PDF format, is attached here for interested merchants to review and print.
If you have questions about this new regulation, please contact the Small Business Environmental Ombudsman (SBEO) toll-free at 1-877-247-2329 or the Small Business Assistance Program’s hotline at 1-800-780-7227.
