The Retail Council of New York State services the workers’ compensation needs of retailers through Safety Group 493, designed to reward employers who maintain a safe working environment.
Substantial Savings
Since 1976 we have been helping our eligible members lower their workers’ compensation insurance costs by returning a portion of their premium in the form of annual dividend payments. Although dividends cannot be guaranteed, we have averaged a return of 39% over the past 30 years!
In fact, as part of our 37.5% dividend for policy year 2008, we returned more than $4.2 million to eligible Safety Group members.

Eligible participants also receive upfront policy discounts of up to 20%. Safety Group members will enjoy a low mandated New York State Assessment of 6.3 percent in 2010 while other carriers will charge 14.2 percent.
